Mohiniattam Dancer

Rashmi Menon started learning dance at the tender age of four years under Smt. Savithri. She has undergone intense training in Mohiniattam, Bharathanatyam & Kuchipudi under the tutelage of disciples of Guru Smt. Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma (late)- Sri Kalalayam Mohandas & Sri Kalalayam Kumarji for about eighteen years. She is a lawyer by profession who also holds a graduate degree in chemistry. She is a Post-Diploma holder in Mohiniattam, Bharathanatyam & Kuchipudi. She feels herself fortunate to have been expertly trained in Mohiniattam by Smt. Pallavi Krishnan - a disciple of Guru Bharathi Shivaji ,for five years. The unending desire to learn has taken her to Guru Padmasree Smt. Kalamandalam Kshemavathi who is now guiding her through the deeper realms of her passion.

Rashmi has established a centre for learning cultural skills
by name Sree Rajarajeswari School of Dance and Music at Karukutty (Ernakulam Dist. Kerala) and Chalakudy (Thrissur Dist. Kerala) with a student strength of about 90. She trained over 80 students in Bharatnatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchippudy and conducted Arangetram of several batches. She successfully shaped out many Kalathilakams.

Rashmi is a graded doordarshan artist both in Mohiniyattom & Bharatnatyam. She has performed in various prestigious stages like Sree Chithirathirunal Festival, Mamallapuram Festival, Deccan Dance Festival, Pallavotsava, Kadavallur Anyonyam etc. She was honoured by Kaladarpanam in 2004 for her multi-talents .She represented Kerala and participated in the Deccan Dance Festival -2001. She has been a judge for mohiniyattom in the Kerala University Youth-festival for the past few years. Apart from being a performer, she has got so many choreographies to her credit. Recently she performed with Dr.Padma Subrahmanyam and other eminent artists in Brihadeeswara Temple , Thanjavur in connection with the 1000th year celebration of this temple which has been declared as the world heritage monument by UNESCO.
